Majority vs. minority
The majority in any situation always determines the rules and the minority follow these set rules. Minorities always faces aggression or in some cases are shunned because they are simply different which is not acceptable to the majority. The minority is different but unique and sometimes they rise to top and become the majority. In the writings of Judith Ortiz Cofer, Nora Ephron, and  Eric Schlosser they show how being minority is like and how a minority has risen up to take the place of majority.
Ms. Cofer writing is a personal one showing how it was like to grow up different than most children in the USA. “I was born a white girl in Puerto Rico, but became a brown girl when I came to live in the United States.” Her skin color made her a minority in the USA and that most people in the US were Caucasian or white. In any place where there is a majority of one race it simply unacceptable to be a different color and that sometimes it also bad to speak about skin color. “Hierarchy for popularity was as follow: pretty white girl, pretty Jewish girl, pretty Puerto Rican girl, pretty black girl.” Even at a young age there where set rules made by the majority and that the minority groups must follow and if they did not they would not be accepted or likely face problems from the majority. What was acceptable is written above and that you had to act and dress like the majority group or be minority and follow your own rules. “In college, I suddenly became an “exotic” woman to men who survived the popularity wars in high school…” As she grew older she became extremely popular because she was different then all of the other women and that men wished to date out of their social groups. Sometimes being a minority is not bad at all and that a minority may have more power than the majority in the near future. This is happens when you are different and that you sometimes have follow the set rules or follow your own path which is frankly not easy.
Ms. Ephron writing is about a picture someone else  had taken several seconds before a woman’s death. “Beyond that the, pictures were classic, old-fashioned but prefect example of photojournalism at its most spectacular.” Photojournalism was still a very new thing back then and most papers had mostly written journalism so photos were still a minority in the past. She took picture of woman seconds before she died, photos are really the only thing that could catch those last moments before death and writing about it is so limited. “Invading privacy of death. Cheap sentsationalsim. I thought I was reading the national Enquirer.” The contents of the pictures were not acceptable to the majority of the readers, they didn’t like those photos were taken and put on the newspapers they commonly read. The majority of people didn’t like these pictures and there are some who did but most of the feedback was negative off the pictures rather than positive. “That they disturbed is exactly as it should be: that’s why photojournalism is often more powerful than written journalism.” Photojournalism started as a minority but soon became majority because the pictures could capture moments that simply no written work could. The saying goes that a “picture holds a thousand words” and some cases it is true. Today in our time, photojournalism is little above or equal to written journalism because most news articles usually contains a picture and without the picture you wouldn’t have the whole story.
Mr. Schlosser writing is about how fast food had a very humble beginning but now has spread all over the world and is accepted almost everywhere in the world. “An industry that began with a handful of modest hot dog and hamburger stands in southern California has spread to every corner of the nation.” Fast food did start out as minority in the USA and has grown to a majority in the world. They had to start out following the rules of the majority but as the majority they have set the new standards of business in the world today. “One of the ironies of America’s fast food industry is that a business so dedicated to conformity has founded by iconoclast and self-made men.” As the majority, fast food has forgotten how it began and now seeks to get rid of the minority such as small business and anyone else who doesn’t conform. Fast food has now become majority and as I said before doesn’t like anyone who is part of the minority. “Hundreds of millions of people buy fast food every day.” Fast food has a many customers and this maybe the reason why fast food can continue as it is now, a majority. It is unlikely any other groups will take the place of fast food so the minority will stay a minority or they may become like fast food and rise to the top. His writing is a perfect example of how a minority can become a majority.
In all of these writings I have seen how minority are treated and how in some cases the minority has more power than the majority. I have seen how a minority becomes the majority and sets the new rules. In the writings of Judith Ortiz Cofer, Nora Ephron, and Eric Schlosser they showed us how being a minority and majority is like and how minority takes the place of minority.

Peace and Lessons of the Past:
I find it funny how lessons or stories of others guide us in a hope for peace and the peace for the dead. Their life stories show us the depths of violence and aggression has occurred in the past and left unchecked nothing will become better. The ultimate desire is peace which in its self a better world for our self’s and for those who never had it. Maxine Hong Kingston, Cornell West, Kafi Annan tell us what is wrong with the world based on  their views and stories of others and some semblance to give peace both to the dead and the living.
In Maxine Hong Kingston story “No Name Woman” she writes about the death of her Aunt and why her story was never told. Ms. Kingston learned about her Aunt from her mother and the story begins in China were her Aunt became pregnant with another man then her husband. I n her culture this was a crime and in retraction for it the villagers destroyed her home. This was a lesson to her daughter about the way one should act but what the villagers did was still a crime. Another way to punish someone who didn’t deserve it was to completely forget her and the family did just that. Her mother said “You must not tell anyone” because the entire family felt shame for the things she did and she was punished for it but the person at fault is the father of the child. In their culture the women had to do what they were told by family and strangers and she is the one who takes all the blame rather than the father. Ms. Kingston wrote “ I alone devote papers to her,” she choice to tell her Aunts story then keep her secret and to me it gave her Aunt some rest. In Chinese tradition most paper that is made for deceased family members is usually origami paper of a house and etc. Most people in Chinese culture honor all of the dead but not all of the offerings are distributed evenly amongst them.  It could be also so it would never happen again.
Cornel West’s writing of “Moral obligations of living in a democratic Society” shows how aggression of the past can’t be forgotten and how we can strive to make the world better. He writes “All foregoing are signs of a humanity that has been problematized”. In history he says some people were considered a problem rather than human and how societies try to get rid of it and how so many crimes occur against these groups, race, and religions. Mr. West writes “We are all on the same boat, on the same turbulent sea. The boat has a huge leak in it and in the end, we go up down together.” A person’s race, class, and culture don’t matter because we are all human. We share the same problems and should work together to fix it rather blame on someone and etc. Mr. West writes “If the Kingdom of God is within you, then everywhere you go, you ought to leave a little heaven behind.” Each of us can make this world better by being more kind, generous, and courteous. Another is no matter how others acts doesn’t me you should blindly follow and the idea are to hold yourself to higher standard and become others model of good person. We each have responsibility to each other which is respect of others and peace.
In Kofi Annan’s Nobel Lecture he directly addresses what is wrong with the world and how to improve it. Written by Mr. Annan he says “The twentieth century was perhaps the deadliest in human history, devastated by innumerable conflicts, untold suffering, and unimaginable crimes.”  He clearly states why everyone should try to strive for peace because the events that occurred so far will not stop unless the world does something to prevent it and so the past will never repeat itself. The basic rights of all individuals should be protected and that crimes against humanity will never occur again. Written by Mr. Annan “A forum was created- the United Nations...” The united nation was created to promote safety for everyone, end to conflicts, and to sustain our planet. The United Nations goals are to create a better world for everyone. Kofi Annan wrote “I do not stand here alone. On behalf of all my colleagues in every part of the United Nations, in every corner of the globe- and in instances risked or given their lives in the cause of peace…” In the end peace is wrought dying for. Those who gave their lives did it for rest of the world to learn from and stop the senseless fighting. Now It’s up for the next generation to learn from the parents mistake and create peace.
They understood and learned from the lessons of the past and were not careless to repeat the cycle. Maxine Hong Kingston, Cornell West, Kofi Annan in turn will set what is right and wrong and tell their stories for others to learn from. Maxine Hong Kingston, Cornell West, Kofi Annan tell us that we will find peace by learning from the past mistakes of others. It’s also so that cycle in history is no longer repeated and a new future is created for everyone. This is the way things are meant to be in hope that someday that there is longer violence, disease, and war.

Chapters: 8
Bourne made his way to the scene of his attack coming across a pair of dogs and a couple at work on his way there. The husband was cutting some wood while the wife was cooking with a wok on an open fire and they paid no attention his passing but the dogs did watch him for little. He was on Bali Island and in the city of Tenganan. He came to a stop at the temple and found the area was the shooter did wait to take his shot. He came across a Bali girl who was the eldest daughter of the couple who owned the warung. He learned that the girl name was Kasih and that she recognized him as the man that was shot three days ago but he told her the man was dead in order to protect his cover as being deceased. The girl helped further by showing him a glass eye and a bullet casing. All he needs to do is trace back the bullet to the seller and get the name of the buyer.

Arkadin was the man who shot Bourne and is now beginning to train an army for his own purpose. He is building his forces in Azerbaijan near the northwestern borders of Iran because the environment there is like Iran, locals that live there would protect him because he has helped them, and because it largely unpopulated. He has help from Dimitri Maslov the head of kazanskaya which is the largest mob in Moscow. He is getting his supplies form the boss of the Eastern Brotherhood due the fact the Aekadin would kill him if doesn’t. The writer likes to use a lot imagery to show how the character looks like. He also likes to write about the thoughts of his characters a lot.

Bourne has healed from his injury and now looking for Suparwita. Suparwita was priest he spoke to before his incident and seems to know about Bourne’s past which he doesn’t remember. He is now going to temple he has been seeing in his dreams in hopes that some his memories will return. What I notice about the writing it's based on the view of character and they tell the story. Time passes when you switch to a different character in the story.
